Al Janoub Stadium | Qatar World Cup 2022
Al Janoub Stadium formerly known as Al-Wakrah Stadium. It is one of the playing venues of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The stadium was officially opened on 16 may 2019 during the 2019 Amir Cup final between Al Sadd SC and Al-Dahail SC. The stadium is designed by architect Zaha Hadid. It was inspired by the sails of traditional dhow boats used by Fisher and Pearl divers. The stadium is a rectractable roofed football stadium in Al-Wakrah.
Al Janoub Stadium is eight venue to host the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. The stadium will host seven matches during the FIFA World Cup, with six group games along with one round of 16 knockout match of Qatar 2022. The stadium has capacity of 40,000 seats and it will be reduced from 40,000 to 20,000 after the tournament, the excess seats donated to football development projects overseas. Later it will be home to the Al-Wakrah sports club team.
